A Nod to Naumburg
For as long as we can remember, the historic neo-Classical Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park has been the setting for the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts, a series of free, outdoor classical music concerts that have likely inspired generations of new audiences. Dedicated to showcasing promising new talent and promoting the professional development of young composers and conductors, it is the oldest concert series of its kind in the country. Upcoming concerts include the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra on July 15 and The Knights on July 22. Plan to arrive early to grab one of the 1,000 seats provided on a first come, first serve basis. This summer (and every summer), we tip our hat to Elkan Naumburg, whose generosity and love of classical music continues to add a touch of civility to summer in the city.
