Fort Knox has nothing on New York's Federal Reserve Bank. Housed in a rather imposing Italian Renaissance-Revival building in the Financial District, it's home to roughly 7,000 tons of gold – all locked away some five floors below street level. Where better to bury the world's largest depository of gold than on the bedrock of Manhattan? Tours of the vault are free (imagine that!) and include background on the Fed's functions, a bonus for would-be bankers. The one-hour tour is a popular one so it's best to lock in your spot by emailing email@example.com. Tours are offered Monday through Friday, except bank holidays, naturally.
