While the summer months have come to a close, the event calendar in NYC never stops. Even when the bulk of the tourists head home and the kids go back to school, the city that never sleeps still has a great lineup of things to see and do within easy distance from Times Square. Why not check out a few of the activities for yourself.
The 9/11 memorial tour: This guided bike tour takes you all around Manhattan and you can see the city from a perspective few ever get the chance to notice. The events of 9/11 changed the landscape of NYC and changed world history forever. This bike tour is held several times throughout the month but the tone of the city changes dramatically on Sept 11th. If you happen to be in the city on this day, take a moment to pay respects to the thousands who lost their lives that fateful day. Easily accessible from your Times Square hotel, this memorial tour could be quite a highlight during your stay.
The DUMBO arts festival: NYC loves to acronym it’s neighborhoods. Held in the community under the Manhattan Bridge overpass, this end of September event is what the Washington Square arts exhibit would be like if it had an after party. The top digital artists make interactive exhibits for all ages and turn the buildings into their own digital canvases. Even the most critical of art lovers will be visually stunned by the work being displayed here. While this festival is a bit edgier than most, it is frequented by some of music and film’s top stars. A short drive from Times Square, this exhibit is a change from the classical notes that most art possesses.
Feast of San Gennaro: If you love food and culture, this is a can’t miss. Held from Sept. 12th to the 22nd, this feast and street fair is an annual celebration held in Little Italy for over 80 years. The food is magnificent, the fair and celebrations are awe inspiring, and it is Italian. Who could pass up that opportunity? Just a short few minutes from Times Square makes this an easy walk but you’d better take a cab home as the food will fill you up.
