If you’re planning a trip to Manhattan, you better make time to hit Broadway for a show. Broadway, the oldest north–south main thoroughfare in New York City, is filled with venues offering a huge variety of live Broadway plays. We’ve discovered two plays that we will think will take Broadway by storm in 2013.
BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S
Theatre: Cort Theatre
Opens: March 20, 2013
If you’ve seen the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s you know just how compelling this Truman Capote gem is. If you’ve never had the chance, experiencing this live performance is bound to knock your socks off. Set in NYC in the 1940’s, a vivacious party girl named Holly (played by Audrey Hepburn in the film) meets a young writer named Fred. Holly enjoys a host of suitors, including Fred and a playboy millionaire. The scenes are filled with dynamic dialogue, and a genuine love story unfolds. You’ll be captured by Breakfast at Tiffany’s the moment the curtain opens.
THE PHILADELPHIA STORY
Theatre: American Airlines Theatre
Opening: Fall 2013
Funny, fast-paced, and entirely spirited best describe this classic romantic comedy. The cast has not yet been set, but with a film production that included stars like Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant you can bet the cast will be of the highest caliber. Set in Philadelphia’s high society during the late 1930s, The Philadelphia Story is about a failed marriage, blackmail and that certain flame that just never dies out. You’ll laugh from the first scene to the last as you watch a creative set of characters play on each other’s weaknesses.
